This might help.{ Unibond repair metal for good.} It sets very quick, but seems about the best filler for aluminium. Not cheap, from Halfords or motor factors. Or can be bought on Ebay

Glad it's not the weld that's gone this is a lot cheaper option, good luck with the repair it looks like you have it well in hand.

David,

Sounds like the fix is well in hand, but did you find the root cause?

It might be worth checking the inboard end of the wing stay for witness marks to ensure that it's not fouling on the upper kingpin washer. The stay angles do vary between cars and my offside wing stay on the '12 4/4 fouled as described. Over time, this would transmit jolts along the stay sufficient to fatique the wing.

Apologies if this is stating the obvious..

Any good quality body filler should be fine.

I would be more concerned about the amount of filler on there in the first place. I doubt it's "normal".

I would have a good check around and under the wing for signs of previous repair or accident damage.

as you have to repaint the wing, at your place i will remove all the filler for be sure doesn't have more damage so much like this is not normal at all

Being on the top of the wing and given the dark colour could it be a thermal thing? Has it been parked for a while in the midday sun recently?

Very little filler is used on a superform wing apart from a fillet to cover the weld of the headlight nacelles and the bonded edging to the wing. The wing is sprayed with high build primer.

Incidentally the nacelles were never just bonded but there was a period where they were spot welded rather than the continuous weld they have now.

Are you the original and only owner of the car?

If not it maybe worth trying to contact previous owners or dealerships to see what may have occurred.

I was going to ask the same

If the filler is there to fill a dent then there would be evidence of an indent underneath

If there is no evidence then could this be just a few layers of high build primer ?
