It is possible to see inside Graham. The museum is only open on a Wednesday and Saturday and we are usually working on the Dakota on those afternoons, so it is open then. If you cannot make it on those days contact me to sort a time out and I will open it up for you. The cockpit is fairly 1940's and not complete or functioning, a photo to give you an idea.

This is the museum that several of us (including spanner juggler) visited last year.
We were treated to a guided tour of the provost and some us got to sit in it as well.
Coupled with a few beers and good meal in a local hotel then a visit the next day to BBMF at RAF coningsby we had a fantastic time. Must go and see just Jayne next time.
Both metheringham and BBMF would be worth another visit as they're both fascinating places. My uncle was a mid upper gunner in a lanc sadly killed over Berlin aged 19 after winning the DFM He was stationed at kirton Lindsey which although now has been returned to farm land isn't too far from metheringham.

Couple of pics from the trip here, the first one is at metheringham and the hotel that were stood in front of in the second pic was the officers mess for the dam busters during the war, little seems to have changed its very old worlde and great for that.

The DC3 / C47 is a tough old bird, with over 15,000 produced in the west.

Looking about the web it seems there could be 500 airworthy examples with perhaps 200 in regular use.
First class condition and fully airworthy examples sell for £250K or so. I'll bet they are still in use long after I'm dead.

In the EU they cannot be used for paying passenger services as they cannot economically be fitted with an escape slide. Wheels down the door is
4 feet form the ground and after a belly landing the floor is about 2 feet from the ground this H&S Requirement is a bit silly....

Great post and the photo of the cockpit is pure Ernest K. Gann nostalgia while the shot of the M3W with the Dakota flatters both machines. It's good work that you are doing with the restoration. Even if it doesn't fly again it will allow people to get close up. So often the flying ones aren't accessible because of rules and because they need to earn a living. There are still a couple of DC3s at Coventry airport - kept airworthy and on standby for oil spill work. And as someone pointed out, unfortunately bureaucracy has stuffed the possibility of using them for charter and scenic flights. Hope to call in on your museum one day.

Graham, Coventry is definitely worth a visit but you really need someone who can get you into the interesting hangars. Having said that the Midlands Air Museum is open to the public and when I was there with the Auster club in March we had a cockpit tour of their Vulcan. A humbling experience when one thinks of the Falklands mission. It's a big plane with a cramped cockpit.
