I'm curious: how old is your home and what is the internal construction? All the internal walls here are concrete block, so lots of mass. The walls are insulated and on the N and E aspects there is clay tile hanging over insulation felt as well.
1975, cavity wall all insulated, DG all round, 9" loft insulation. I think the internal walls will be breeze block. I believe the time-to-temperature is about 20 minutes.

Having just received my latest bill from British Gas I have to admit that my initial enthusiasm for smart meters is on the wane...  Short of building my own blast furnace I'm not sure how I could have used one and half grands worth of gas in less than 8 weeks... but apparently they forecast I would! Blimey, that's extremely suspect, isn't it? What does the actual meter display say? If you can dig out your bill for the equivalent period last year I would query it immediately.

I've alerted British Gas and they are "working on it".
I am on my second smart meter. Last year I had an estimated bill, not anywhere near that large but certainly an unreasonable amount. I queried why they had estimated at all and it transpired that my "smart" meter hadn't sent them any readings for 9 months. This latest comical billing is the result of the replacement meter - it was obviously second-hand as it already had 3324 on the clock but they haven't taken that into account.
The BG back-end systems are clearly underdeveloped if they can't recognise these issues before sending out the bills!

They aren't the only ones! I think it's fair to say that transitioning to Smart metering is proving to be a massive technical headache for pretty much everyone.

I was dismayed my new boiler was not having any real effect on gas consumption. When they asked me for meter readings I send my usual snarky reply "go read the smart meter" and last month they responded... that they had NEVER had any readings from the smart meter (from 18mths ago). Oh well!

last month they responded... that they had NEVER had any readings from the smart meter (from 18mths ago). Oh well! You'd think that would set in motion a process to investigate but it seems they leave it to the customer to notice and report any problems. Today they sent me a survey to tell them how well they responded to my problem. No actual response to the problem though.

We are moving hoyse soon to one we were renting out. Tenants moved out April 13th. Last week we had a Dwr Cymru bill for £165 for one month. Volume of water "used" was 53cum..11,000+ gallons!The house is unoccupied! They claimed they read he meter April 13. B******t! The tenant leaving reading they read was either not done or misread too low.I don't know how they will get paid for the "missing" water. No signs of chasing the tenant so far. I bet they right it off.
I queried it by phone. I asked for the previous usage 6 months usage and it was small, with 3 occupants.
They asked me to check the meter. I did and it was 1cubic m more. So....no leaks confirmed.
The girl agreed the bill was ludicrous. A new bill for £17 was sent.
Observations.....
The sewerage charge per cubic m is higher than actual water taken in. The volume of sewerage is the same as water used.
We don't expect big bills on moving in as there are 2 of us. We will be monitoring water usage though. Rain butt to collect water. I will use the golf club showers every time not just warm weather days.
Wash the cars in the rain?
