My first car was a then brand new Toyota MR2 Mk2.

Yes indeed the one made famous by Car Magazine ... "How Toyota ruined the MR2"

I loved it to bits but suspect compared to the abilities of cars being produced today it would feel ancient. Or maybe not so - it was very light and pointy if a little edgy.

Robert, was that the wedge shapped MR2? The first ones didn't even have Toyota badges because the company worried it would be a flop and effect brand image (cue brake gags!).

A friend in school had a white one, when they were nearly new, and I remember being so jealous (for the reason why, see above - it rhymes with meetle laugh2 )

Gerwyn - the pre Leyland Midget was best really with the javelin on the bonnet, leather seats and wire wheels. Although the rear wing strip always looked misaligned.

I had a round wheel arched Midget, it was number three - but it was horribly unreliable - so much so that I sold it during the summer of '76,(the long hot summer for you kids who weren't there) and bought a Dolomite 1850. Also the year I met MrsW.

The Midget was unreliable, so you bought a Dolomite?

I'm losing my faith in human nature here.
I briefly owned a Dolly Sprint- only car I've ever owned where the alloy wheels had leprosy!!

It was a sort of early life crisis. I could only get two girls (or mates)in the Midget, but the Dolomite would take at least four......... And it had overdrive, and would hold a hundred on the deserted M1. I did fit 51/2J steelies, vinyl roof and Sprint spoiler. I just couldn't manage the cash required for a Sprint.

After I met MrsW I found how easily it steamed up.............
And then when I swopped it for a Midget 1500 so we could get a house, she found the transition "difficult", but that Midget was our honeymoon car, so she's well used to open air motoring.

Simon, I may be hopelessly confused here but didn't the original MR2 use some of the pressings/panels from the Fiat X1/9?
G ( ignoring the brake gags- I'm trying to be mature about this!)
