I have a starter that starts, a dynamo that charges, a distributor that er..distributes..2 fuses and a fuel pump that you can whack to bring it back to life.. its a simple life and I can fiddle with it all with just a few spanners.. oh its hard not to be smug..  Ah but you forgot a body that rots, an engine that needs a decoke at 60k, a fuel pump that needs hitting ( fond memories of youth|) etc.  I think I'd still prefer your approach.

Howard, the body is alloy mostly and a new chassis, it'll see me out for sure. Decoke I doubt it on modern fuels but we'll see.

Since My 1984 Subaru Brat went to the "Tip" I have looked for a replacement. So far I have not found a replacement that did all the chores the Brat did. Starting to look at old VW Rabbits.

The Brat's were very popular down here as we have a lot of hilly farmland and with a low centre of gravity and lightness they were perfect - there has been nothing to replace them. The Rabbit pick up should work well but they are only 2x I think over here.
