Hi,
Recently a group of Morgans attended the Sky Live event at Teesside Airport. There was a long queue to get in and one car (2002 4/4 with an 1800 Zetec engine) overheated when the fan failed to start. The owner has since wired the fan to an on/off switch as a temporary measure. He wants to change the temperature sensor but he cannot find it anywhere on the radiator or engine.
Anyone any clue as to where it is and what it looks like.
Many thanks if anyone can help
David

Usually it is at the bottom of the rad with 2 wires poking out.

Go to Car Builder Solutions website and put a sensof in the top hose. Then it can be changed easily.

Might be wise to try a local Ford garage and ask if they can advise, some of these Ford engines have more than one, one works the gauge and the other sends information to the ECU for fuel trim data. Important they are all working as you don't want the ECU thinking the car is cooler than it is and richening the mixture to the point where it may over fuel. Some later cars have three sensors. The same place can probably supply a genuine part easier than a factors.

The blacktop Zetec engine coolant fan is ECU controlled. This isn't the first time I've heard of the ECU fan control failing. The only (sensible) option is to rewire the fan through a manual switch or to have a boss welded into either the radiator or the top radiator hose to allow a thermo-switch to be fitted

Just a word of warning. Fans " pull" a bit of current. You need a switch & wireing that can take that current. Most off the shelf switches will burn out so a safer option is to use a solenoid.

On a 2005 Roadster, I wired in a Flexilite Thermostat controlled switch with a sensor that is installed in the upper hose. Used #10 wire and no relay. This was supposed to be a temporary fix until the Owner could visit a Ford Dealer. 2 years later and it is still in use.
I think the problem was a faulty connector but not sure.
