Thanks for goint to the trouble Blake, saves us all a lot of time, money and heartache if we decide to do that mod.

I'd also like to comment on the high quality of your pictures - again. You have obviously given a lot of thought to the angles and the backgrounds, got good equipment and know how to use it. Keep it up. BTW, you have got an exemplary shine on the paintwork, are you using special polish or detailing methods?

Not greatly researched aftermarket LED headlights, but there is a strong chance they are still not legal in the UK. They certainly needed a washing and levelling system in 2012.

I would assume the rest of the EC was the same - but it may not be...

Amazing and informative write up, thank you.

I will definitely get that done to my plus 8 if 1) it fits, 2) its legal and 3) I can find someone to do it for me thumbs

Cheers

Regarding EC compliance, here's the bit from their site (http://www.jwspeaker.com/news/an-evolution-in-led-headlamp-solutions)

Compliant with Global On-Road Safety Standards
Rather than relying on antiquated optical design concepts such as parabolic reflectors, the 8700 Evolution has been designed to leverage the very latest in advanced optical design. These optics enable the 8700 Evolution to produce a beam pattern that not only surpasses DOT requirements, but also exceeds ECE standards (which are more stringent and used throughout Europe and other parts of the world). J.W. Speaker is currently the only major lighting manufacturer producing LED headlamps for the aftermarket which exceed both DOT and ECE requirements.

Do not take the word of JW Speakers. They are in the business of selling things, not the legal arguments. I've seen similar on other related issues where the 'advice' given is definitely wrong.

In any event, it could be argued that compliance on the light performance was irrelevant as the other needed bits, levellers and washers are not part of the light. So yes, possibly a legal light, but not a legal installation. So the problem still exists.

My understanding is the levellers and wipers are a requirement as a result of the possibility of a misplaced beam causing dazzle over what an incandescent bulb would give.

I admit to playing the game on LEDs on other lamps, but the situation on a 1930 car is a bit different, and the only lights that are not legal on my car, could be removed to make the car legal again. As these are the brake lights, it would be a very foolish jobsworth who pushed the issue (pre 34 cars don't have to have brake lights and mine didn't from new).

How are you getting on with them? Do you still consider them good? No regrets?

they are amazing. except for the fact my car is currently in pieces with the engine pulled out as the compensator is having to be gutted and replaced.

Bummer about the car and compensator, but good news on the lights, although that doesn't help you with the compensator. What went wrong with the compensator?
