Hi, AVO's, probably done to death however thought I would ask some who have fitted them, specifically REAR. I bought The AVO dampers from Heart of England for my 2005 Roadster, front went on no issue however the rear ones were a little troublesome. Just wondered if I was right to do what I did. Where the top fits to the bolt going through the corner of the roll bar, to have it at a right angle (straight up) left an 8mm gap, frame to top of unit; in order to tighten it appropriately it ended up pulling it across. Is this likely to cause any issues overstressing the damper do you think? I have contacted John Worrall who got back to promptly however needed to ask A. Another. Many thanks Abbo

I doubt it. I seem to remember using a rubber mallet to get mine onto the +4 a few years ago as the bushes are a tight fit.

I think that I understand what you are getting at..........
You might wish to pack out the 8mm using a suitably sized spacer or plain washers. However, remember that the angle of the damper will change depending on the undulations in the road surface across the axle as well as relative to each rear wheel.
There is a reason why flexible bushes are used at the damper mounting points - it is to allow a degree of flexibility as the suspension rises and falls.

I had a similar situation when fitting mine. I inserted a couple of washers to fill the gap. Before tightening up I flexed the suspension to get everything to settle in. I preferred this to leaving all flex to the poly inserts. In my mind this set it to a "neutral" position with my weight only in the car. Kitcar suppliers advise a similar method when building suspensions to let the natural weight to preload/pre position the parts to prevent out of line stress on bushes in particular.

Ah now that may explain a thing or two Cheshire. As you look at the back i noticed that the driver’s side looked higher (can’t say I noticed before)i measured ground to top of arch, its 20mm higher drivers side however ground to top of damper same both sides think i may check them out wheels down, take the rather expensive looking back tray and cover out. See if it has shifted about after the vigorous post fitting shake down. May use the old sleeves as spacers.
JohnV6 glad I didn’t need a mallet, the bolts at the top came out dead easy just slid them through the top hole. Thanks
