I think this is a good idea!

But, with all due respect to Mark and the factory, do we have any indication they are truly interested in solving this problem? In scanning the entire body of knowledge on the topic here, I don't recall seeing much if anything indicating that the folks in Malvern are all that concerned about it.

If so, would seem to me they would have assigned someone to be working on it, who would naturally want to engage with the folks on here who have actually done some R&D on the problem.

My 2012 3W has a bit noisy bevel box. Honestly I always drive it between 40 and 65 mph so, it's not a big issue for me. I'm used to drive very noisy car so I take it has a feature not as a issue. It's part of the experience. I drive every day very boring car so, when I need some thrill, I just drive my 3W or my Caterham and it's always an adventure

The factory have been looking at this with Quaife - it's evidently not an easy fix.

Garage 56 also seem to be struggling to come up with a solution.

Maybe it'll be sorted as part of the Euro4 version innocent

4 years with out even any indication of what if anything is being done, and little or no response to anyone that asks for information.

Chris, you're correct.

They have been looking at it.
But not working at it to find a good solution for the ones suffering with this problem. !!!

To my opinion, the only one which can be blamed for this is Quaife.
They have build something what below the quality standards needed for this task.

Once more I refer to the many "bevel boxes" as used in BMW motorbikes for more than 50 years.
Did anyone ever have heard an BMW with a screaming bevelbox ?

So why can't Quaife not produce something similar ?
Because of the price ?
Don't forget one can buy three BMW motorbikes for the price of one M3W.
That means three good bevel boxes for the price of one noisy Quaife bevelbox.

From own experience I know awful it is to have such a screaming bevel box.
I also know now how much more joy it is to ride with a bevel box producing normal acceptable noise.
That's why we all need to keep pushing MMC to find a solution to the ones be troubled with this problem.

Reading some of the previous posts it seems that the permanent solution to the problem is to get the bevel gears lapped, which is what the company should have done in the first place. It's MMC or Quaife saving pennies, I suspect MMC instructed Quaife to build it to a price.

I have copied and pasted from Ricardo's post.

WHAT IS GEAR LAPPING?
Gear lapping servicesGear lapping is the process of imparting a very fine finish and high degree of accuracy to gear teeth, by using a lapping tool and applying a fine-grained abrasive between a work material and a closely fitting surface, called a lapping plate. By running mating pairs together in a gear lapping machine and feeding a liquid abrasive compound under pressure into the gear pair, small amounts of metal are removed as the gears rotate, thus refining the tooth surface and achieving the desired contact pattern.

Lapping typically improves the wear properties of gear teeth, and corrects the minute errors in involute profile, helix angle, tooth spacing and concentricity created in the forming, cutting or in the heat treatment of the gears. Therefore, gear lapping is most often applied to sets of hardened gears that must run silently in service. It is important to bear in mind that gear lapping is a mating process; two gears that have been matched by lapping should be operated as a set, and also replaced as a set, rather than singly.

Pretty sure the NVH kit was a response.

Personally I don't want to wait another few years for MMC to figure this out. It is my goal to figure out the fix (which seems to be a multi-step process of shimming and lapping), who is the most competent at this task and then estimate the cost?

We have a very unique group of owners that have paid a great deal for this very entertaining conveyance called a Morgan 3 Wheeler. What is the cost of making it a fully enjoyable experience? Do we have any Vendors that want to assist us in this endeavor?
