I would say my speedo is set up with an algorithm that doubles the error percentage as the speed doubles. With the fuel gauge, as someone posted, generating random numbers, along with the speedo errors, I think Morgan is trying to establish a cultural paradigm shift where we all just accept this crap as normal.

There is just no excuse for an electronic speedo being off like this. Our police use moving radar and laser for local town revenue enhancement, and the cost of being nailed is outrageous.
I've just sent off a request to Caerbont tech support to see if they can help, as none of their on-line instructions seem correct.

Just received a very polite and prompt response from technical support at Caerbont: "Unfortunately the 3 wheeler speedo isn't manufactured by us. It's made by VDO."
He suggested contacting Mark Baldwin at Morgan. Anyone know the best way to try to get a request into him, or it it's worth trying?
Or if anyone has an idea of what the VDO speedo model # is, perhaps the technical documentation on it can be found.

According to the x-wedge installation guide, the speed is measured from pulses (on the right hand wheel of a 3w). The pulses are sent to the speedometer which processes the data and feeds it to the ecu. So here's the thing:
I run a computer permenantly connected to the ecu which gives all the guages. The ecu road speed exactly matches the speed indicated on a seperate satnav, but the speedometer reads about 5mph fast. This means the wheel calibration is correct or the ecu would show the wrong speed too. So if you change any wheel calibration then you might get the needle to point to the right speed but the ecu will thing your going slower than you are. The ecu needs this speed data to turn on the fan when your going less than 10mph, it also records engine mileage which might be useful in the event of failure.
One other thing. If you frig the speedometer to read correctly then the recorded mileage will be out since there is only one set of data, your service interval will also be out. I am convinced it's all correct since the miles recorded on the speedo are pretty damn close to the distance the engine itself things it's gone. In addition the speedometer mileage always matches the satnav, the needle points slightly high.
Good luck with the fix but I think I would rather have the thing telling me I'm going slightly faster than I am to reduce the chance of getting done for speeding.
Just a thought

That info ties in with my findings. Speedo reads high but odometer correct. Seem to remember getting confirmation from another owner some time ago.

In UK it is illegal for manufacturers to fit a speedo that under reads so therefore most set it to read 10% over. If you want a more exact speed use a GPS

Just a thought I have not checked the distance recording, will do that and see if mine also measures correctly, and just reports speed wrong. If so, I agree, probably no way to actually resolve it unfortunately. But I'd think VDO would be embarrassed by the level of error if that's the case. In the state of NJ, local police enforcement (revenue generation focused) is severe, the local departments use moving radar and will ticket at 5-over. I don't think it's too much to ask for something closer to accurate in this day and age. My Corvette is dead-on accurate, as is my truck and our Toyota van. Now if I could just sort a way to mount a radar detector somehow...

The speedo reads over so at 30 it would read 35 so it shouldn't be the cause of a speeding fine. Happy sunny motoring

Has anyone tried a Healtech SpeedoHealer? Basically it intersects the signal between the wheel sensor and speedo to enable calibration. Bikers use it when fitting different size wheels etc.

The speedo reads over so at 30 it would read 35 so it shouldn't be the cause of a speeding fine. Happy sunny motoring But it's also adding an inflated number of miles at 8.5% per mile. At least if you were to go a constant 30 mph. I may stay the same all through your mph range at a flat percentage fast. I know it's nice to have a cushion "safety" factor built in, but not at an 8.5% surcharge in miles accrued. I would get the speed calibrated and some of the calibration modules work well. Also they make a GPS module that you can convert to that sends out pulse to the speedo.
