A few weeks ago, I got my M3W back from the shop. The culmination of 13 months of repairs for a rear-end collision! This was the second such accident and 13-month repair ordeal. The first collision was the result of a distracted young driver at an unprotected left turn. The second, believe it or not, was at a light with both the car directly behind me and myself coming out of a complete stop!

I have come to the conclusion that this must be somehow related to low profile/visibility issues. I drive almost exclusively in urban areas, which probably exacerbates the problem.

So far, my creative solutions involve a flag pole, a very colorful helmet (not my preferred solution), and a recurring flare (not a serious, and likely illegal, solution).

I was curious if any other M3W owners had come across this problem/had any ideas on how to address it.

Best,

Gabriel

Louder exhaust and upgrade the "meep-meep" horn to a airhorn.

Louder exhaust is not a bad idea. I'll do some digging around for some alternatives.

Unfortunately, the accidents have been consistently from behind, so I would not be able to use the horn effectively.

One could imagine a system that works like parking sensors. As soon as the car behind is getting too close to you, it starts the horn.

Loud exhausts do nothing. It's been proven with motorcycles in many studies. Your best protection is your own defensive driving and positioning at lights, intersections, etc. if you're not a motorcyclist you need to read some of Hough's books on proficient motorcycling and start to think like a motorcyclist.

Three or four wheels we seem to be low and out of sight - if the way we are "cut up" is a signal!

Being well lit - even in daytime - is my best bet.

Good Luck
