I am presently going thru the same thrash with My '63 +4. Starts OK but runs out of fuel on the hill. Mechanical Pump with an electric pump on board just in case.

Have had problems with Pertronix. Now it is looking like Pertronix is better than points. What to do? So on my +4 I will carry a spare Dizzy with Pertronix in it. Pretty soon I will need a trailer to carry spare parts for this thing. Old Morgans are neat, but a PITA!!!!!!!!!

Must have been something going wrong with installation. This was a new Lucas 25D Dizzy. Probably a cheap knock-off. Will order new Lucas 25D from a reliable supplier. Button

Ok, success. I checked the bowls. Dry as a bone. I pumped and pumped the gas, but nothing came through. I filled the bowls with gas and started the car. Not an electrical issue. But as the gas emptied the bowls the motor stopped. I filled the bowls again and started the engine. I revved the motor a bit, to get the mechanical fuel pump working. It stayed on and idled as it should. I did not use the choke and it started very easily, perhaps because it was 88 degrees outside. The previous owner of the car said this would happen to him on occasion but he would put an air pump in the gas tank to push the petal through. Thanks for all your good suggestions. I would rather tinker to get it running, than call the very good Morgan mechanic down the road and part with my cash.

I went for a wonderful drive right after to charge the battery. It was a beautiful day, perfect for a runabout.

Being a long range tourer and on little travelled roads, I must find the cause of any problems and insure I have the spares, tools, etc. on board to fix this stuff myself. I am often out of cell phone range. Not sure You were a participant but if You were, You would recall My trip to Orlando and Key West from Seattle and back. Took the Northern Route East and the Southern Route West. 1963 +4-4Str. This trip was not without problems and I became aware that I was on My own and must become a "Road Mechanic". In New Orleans I paid a Mechanic a fortune and ended up finding a rotten fuel hose myself. The mechanic did not understand old ignition problems. I recently went thru the same thing, only different problem, on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. As Robert Couch once told Me, "You don't need a mechanic, You need a Psychiatrist".

I had a similar problem last year. Bad condenser. The new coils are garbage.
