Ok so that worked. The story so far. The motor is out and as the photo shows we found a broken clutch lever and also broken holder into which the lever slots. Amazing that I drove a 200km rally with it in this condition.
What I have learnt is that these parts are difficult to obtain. Three Morgan dealers have so far failed to come up with them and Burtons does not have this type. Luckily I'm a member of TM and Arwyn saw my difficulty and generously sent his spare lever. Through Morgan friends here I have tracked down a second-hand thrust bearing and holder. I am not happy about putting second-hand parts in but they are in good condition and the car can't sit in the workshop much longer.
So on Monday the parts will be fitted and all being well the Mog will come home Monday afternoon. I will update. Cheers for now and thanks again Arwyn.

Just to end the story. A call from the mechanic on Thursday to say the job was done and I could collect the Mog so it is now back in its own parking spot.
The cost of removing the engine, installing the replacement parts (clutch lever and thrust bearing) and re-installing engine was a very reasonable 320 euros.
Now for the MOT and then next weekend a trip through the Alps.

Wish you prefect weather for your Alpine tour! It's surprising what you're charged if you go to a competent mechanic who isn't a Morgan specialist. I needed a rear brake cylinder replacing in the week which is a bloody awkward job with the car on the deck. I took it to a place in Upton I know where the guy took an hour to do it while we had a pleasant a chat and a cup of tea. Twenty quid.

Thanks everyone and yes that ol' TM Magic works. Sitting at the Mog dealer for the MOT, getting old brake lines and perished fuel filler hose replaced. And poring over a heavily upgraded 68 4/4. Amazing the performance that can be wrung out of the Kent.

Kent were and are great engines - I know I raced/hillclimbed one!!In 1990 happy memories. Got a great shot of me in action at Prescott on my office wall! It was fitted with a big valve head and twin 45s - quite competitive in its class even against Vauxhall 2l 16vs

Neil The one I'm looking at is 145 hp, twin webbers, bigger valves etc and according to the owner quite tractable for road use. 5 speed gearbox too.
It's very tempting, given the skills they have here to do this but mine is a mostly original car so I'm telling myself, better to buy one already modified should I ever succumb to the temptation.
