Dont understand you guys wanting to look at a screen whilst driving. Its dangerous. Not much better than making a phone call. Surely the idea should be to use one of the senses thats rarely needed in driving ie your hearing.

And as for spending money buying a purpose made satnav, why not use the phone you already have together with free and regularly updated software that also includes scameras. All you need to buy then is a blue tooth headset for your helmet or car. And with that headset you can listen to the radio, to music and even make a hands free phone call.

I've retired my garmin nuvi.

I fully agree with Howard.
I bought a small device that allows to fix my smartphone to the transmission tunnel & plug in my earphones to hear the guidance.
Be careful when driving in France, though: there is an immediate 135€ fine if the rozzers catch you driving with earphones or a bluetooth headset!

And be careful in germany using apps or satnavs with speed camera warning devices. It is also expensive.....

We have a Garmin nuvi. It replaced the old Tomtom that died.
swmbo cannot navigate unless it is around shops. ranting
I will use a combination of a map, notes, satnav to suit the journey. I often "force" a route by specifying waypoints on the satnav, having done a map check.
The satnav is handy in a strange area to home in on the final destination acting as a streetmap.
I am looking for a decent smartphone version too, for navigating on foot round towns.

Hard to beat Google Maps. Download a map when you have wifi to use off-line.
