That's easily sorted then Steve. Grab a spare bit of steel, stamp the chassis number into it, take a rubbing, give it to the nice lady and everybody's happy!

The story behind the request is that I've had a letter from DVLA telling me that they've had a V5c request, supposedly from me. I've never made that request, and so it must be a crossed wire.

I've changed the original number to put my dateless plate on and done this all on-line a few weeks ago, but to date I haven't received a V5c in my name yet. I've also taxed it on-line successfully.

The letter states that DVLA are withholding the V5c update pending confirmation of the chassis number, and want a rubbing of the stamped in number OR a photo of it.

If I could find it, then all would be well. Unless it's a cut n shut or a ringer, which I very much doubt in it's three years..

Plan B is to send a photo of the under bonnet chassis plate, which is also stamped, and watch what happens.

DVLA, eh..?

But I still haven't found the stamped in chassis number as yet, and I'm not going into full strip out mode until absolutely necessary..!

it is on the crossmember just at the front of the drivers seat in my car - a 2009 plus4 I expect you'll find yours there too - if you have the chrome covers, you need to prise it off to see the number

I think the letter from the DVLA is taken from a standard letter and the "rubbing" really refers to re-registering old motorcycles that have the VIN/frame number stamped into the headstock. I'd send a photo.

I sent a photo of my 90's VIN plate when the class of "Dual Purpose Vehicle" was removed. This was to show the vehicle weights, which were incorrectly recorded on the V5.

My daughter had to apply for a replacement V5C last week. I was surprised to find that the "plate" with the VIN number of her Citroen C1 was a paper sticker on the underside of the bonnet.

Pleased to report that all has now been sorted, thankfully..!

A nice letter from DVLA followed in the same post by the V5c, which is all good.

Phew..!

Mind you, I STILL haven't unearthed the stamped in number...and now I have the V5c I'll probably stumble on it straightaway..
