Hello all, I have been leasing my Percy Plus 4 for the duration of the summer and have unfortunately noted two star shaped paint cracks on the lower back end of the car right behind the Wheel. My salesman tells me this comes from stones getting caught in the tires and dislodged when one accelerates. I have been driving cars for 40 years and never had this problem Before. Is there an easy solution except filling the Wheel arches with sticky goo to dampen the impact?

My 31 yr old morgan has steel wings.
no star dents
I guess alloy isn't as tough
you will need to underseal / wax oil to lessen the chance of dents.
unless the troops here have any suggestions?

Other than fixing something to the underside of the wings (or not driving the car) then no. There have been a few solutions offered. Personally I used the sticky lead lookalike flashing tape from DIY stores.

Check DaveW's how to thread.

My 1999 Plus8 came with it's own protection fitted as standard I believe, it is similar to that described by PHZI and covers the width of the wheel in the arches.

I consider this the inevitable wear and tear. All 3 of My Morgans have paint jobs done by a local paint shop. About once a year or when I feel like it I take My Morgan back and have them repair the damage. I pay for it at their shop rate. Usually takes a half a day.

"GOMOG" has information on How to keep Your paint in good shape. I used to do this, but I have gotten lazy and I am not a good painter.

I am sorry, I see this is an old problem. Thanks ever so much for helping me find the thread containing several solutions. Rather silly of the factory to protect front Wheels and not rear ones since one generally accelerates forward....

We are always pleased to help Rho8, the problem came about once the alloy wings were fitted the steel didn't seem to suffer being a tougher material.

Absolutely right about the accelerating but the front tyres also pick up stones and throw them randomly at the wings, I try and avoid gravel driveways if possible for this reason.

Good luck with your solution.

I was fortunate enough to win the Morgan Innovations Competition in 2010 with my 'Wells Wingliners'. I made them to try and prevent just the sort of problem you're faced with, and so far they've been very successful.
Hopefully, here's the link to my original article that appeared in the Miscellany magazine at the time:
