Just a quick thought, has anyone replaced the washer bottle? It is a tight fit between the engine and battery and not the prettiest thing covered in heatproof material.
With the quality wipers I don't need much water so wondered if there was a small stainless or ally version that would fit easily?

Have a look in a camping shop for one of those aluminium water bottles.

Mind you, without insulation you maybe could also make tea as well as wash the screen

You are right it does look ugly and very makeshift. Without the heat shielding the water could be ready for tea, it is very hot under there.

Aero250, I think that the underbonnet area of the S1 is a big disappointed after the dramatic looks and interior of the car. It is though all pretty functional and access not too bad. My advise would be to open the bonnet less!

Cheers

Phillippo probably has the right idea but for a winter project I think I may look Howard's suggestion and try modifying a small stainless steel thermos. It may no longer have the vacuum but it would be a least double skinned for insulation
