Gents, at less than two years old and 4000 miles the driver side seat bolster is showing significant wear. Is this a common problem and is there any solution.
Having been sold a vehicle with a £800.00 or so leather upgrade its a bit disheartning to see the wear damage (or patina)set in so quick.
The garage doesn't consider MMC will be interested in any warranty claim.

It can happen John. The cream Aero S5 demonstrator which did the dealer circuit last year was badly discoloured on the side of the backrest. It seems worse with lighter colours.

It can be repaired with dye and 're-laquered' as a diy solution.

I favour 'Furniture Clinic' but some use 'Gliptone'. Both available on line. You may have to supply a small patch of leather from under the seat to get the right colour match.

I'm afraid that's not unusual (as Tom Jones would say).

Here's my drivers seat bolster (LHD Mog) after 2 1/2 years

The good news is that it's quite easily remedied.

On Adrian (AJSki to fly)'s advice I bought a touch up kit from liquid leather
https://www.liquidleather.com/?gclid=Cjw...xRoC8CQQAvD_BwE

Very easy to apply. Here's how it worked out.

Very sorry to hear of the trouble with your leather, but as Dave and Giles have said, it can be sorted out relatively easily.

But it does show (well, it does to me, anyway) that there's a lot to be said for the Ambla vinyl upholstery. After 31 years and 117,000 miles the seats in my car are as good as new.

Apart from the hole in the driver's seat from when I jumped in one day for a test drive, forgetting that I had a screwdriver in the rear pocket of my jeans...

I think one of the offenders for producing marks in that position are the side buckles on some jackets.

My solution on my 2011 +4 was to change the seats over. That way the worn bit is then on the inboard passenger side seat and not so noticable .
You will need to remount the seat belt fixed mounting on each seat (drill and bolt).
After you have done that ensure that upon entry to the car you step in carefully ensuring that your rear end doesnt catch the upholstery.
The only disadvantage is that the reclining levers can foul each other, although you could bend or shorten one of them, i havent bothered to.

Thanks for the tips gents, I'll try the liquid leather first. Dealer advised moving seat back as far as possible before entry or exit but to be honest I have the memory retention of a goldfish and if the boot(!) is in use the seat won't go back anyway.

I'm using leather wax once in a while to keep the leather smooth and flexible.
