OK, everyone, help is required.
The CLC is now out of finance and I have bought it. But it is now 9 years old and worth about £3000.
As old Mercedes go it isn't bad, everything works, it is comfortable, reliable and averages 34mpg. It has all the Mercedes creature comforts, every option possible when it was bought new. So a nice place to be. But it isn't really a drivers car, it is OK as a solo ride, but 3 up with luggage it is ponderous.
We need a hatchback that is good enough to take me to Heathrow, can transport bails of horse stuff to the yard and bags of rubbish to the tip. Milage is about 5000 a year.
When it is 10 I feel that I need to make a decision... the choice is to keep it until it fails and is beyond economic repair, but this could be another 10 years. Also it is a Euro 4 engine, so will, in due course, be restricted in where it can go.
Or I can replace it... it seems I have 2 choices. Something fun, such as a used AMG 45, Golf GTI, or Something green and different, like a BMW i3 of Golf E....
What would you guys do?

Good choice especially as it is about to be replaced so some good deals must be around. If you are not concerned about the badge (?) what about a Hyundai 7 years warranty and quite well priced. My choice would always be a Golf GTI, it's all the car you really ever need.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

Golf GTI and ".....can transport bails of horse stuff to the yard and bags of rubbish to the tip."???? For fun i have several Bikes, Bikes with sidecar and my 4-4. I am waiting for my SKODA Kodiaq to take my Bikes or the 4-4 with me on longer trips on my trailer.... I can use 2t with the Trailer and it has a large boot. OK I´ll miss the "boot" from my VW Caddy....

Reg,
I tend to agree, but given no trip over 100 miles and many short trips, plus the fact we have PV panels, so free power when the sun shines, I'm leaning towards a full electric car..the e Golf isn't on sale in the UK, yet.
No fuel cost, no road tax...good 0-60...

+1 me too or Octavia. What's not to like except perhaps not as good value as previously.

Caroline will not have anything that looks like a SUV, she hated the Evoque with a passion. Drove it but once. Based on the "3 door hatch" logic I suggested one of THESE but was shot down on ground clearance...!!
