Hello, TM forum members.

Scouring the market for a +8 and came across this advertisement. Navy, w wheels and pre-red tyre brake light.

Ad: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C360897

Any thoughts, info or knowledge of this car would be most appreciated. (PM me if you feel more comfortable that way.)

Many Thanks,

Freddie Eximius

I think you'd need to drive it properly to decide if that exhaust is for you. It sounds like it could be quite something, but one may find it too much at times.

Quote:
The character of this Morgan derives from the s/s long tube header exhaust; the 4:2:1 collectors exit through absorption 'silencer' boxes hidden under each wing having side exits. It burbles 'V8' at low revs. then changes to an F1-like V10 scream when spurred. This broad band cacophony of noise is gut wrenching and sets off car alarms at ten paces; and this really is true. It does not have to be driven hooligan-like and will drive sedately when required

Nice looking car though. Price looks about right.

That's Frank Mugford's car
I used to see it from time to time when I worked for RTCC.

The exhausts are RPI ones, I believe this car was the prototype.

Have you viewed the car?

I would be very cautious as the ad has been viewed over 18500 times and it is still unsold...

It may be ok but that is a massive amount of views for a private sale, maybe been on the market a while?

Can you not find out if there is a noggin in that area and have a chat with the lads they may know it well even over the phone . If you are going to look at it take a mog owner with you and one that,s had a +8 a good while and knows his stuff , it may cost you a pie and a pint but worth it. Or ask if the owner will take you to a mog garage and you will pay for his fuel , then let the garage look it over . Its one way of selling it .

It has been on the market a while - I've seen it advertised on the Car & Classic website several times.

I have been aware of this advert on the site for at least the last 2 years maybe longer - I know it says listed August 2017 in the advert I'm assuming that is a relist date.

I would exercise extreme caution that is a long long time to be on the market, the advert sounds very boy racer to me and I would walk away from it.
If viewing take someone that knows Plus8's in depth.

I made enquiries about this car last year.I asked for some pictures of the interior.
The answer was that it was tucked away in his garage and would try and take some.Even after repeated requestt they never turned up.
It has been for sale for at least two years.
Other plus 8 seem to sell alot quicker !

I would be very wary about the hyperbole here . There is no way this car has 250 bhp , even 200 with that degree of modification is optimistic.

All the mods are typical of RPM , and there are very mixed opinions about this company and their offering to the Morgan fraternity.

I do remember that this car (if it is indeed the one I remember) is loud and then some, so not the most appropriate of purchases for someone living in London with sensitive neighbours. Yes it is nice to hear the V8 burble at low revs , and a crackle as you put your foot down, but you also need quieter phases when causing long distances, and I am not sure this car does quiet.

I view this from the other angle, in that it's now worth a very pushy offer..

They don't say which Rover v8 it is ie what Litres, you really want 4.6 litres and 300 bhp which is the Range Rover classic engine , I would leave it and ring round some dealers for specs of v8 Mogs and give them an offer saying what you want on the car.

When I was looking for decent exhaust for my Plus 8 , I approached RPI.
At that time they couldn't supply an exhaust which utilised the existing inner wing porting, they did offer to lend me a cutter to cut an additional hole in the inner wing,
I would check this hasn't been done as the original holes in the inner wings when supplied by Morgan have rolled edges to provide additional strength.

It's a little steep price wise for a 20+ year old +8. Exhaust can always be piped out the rear if side pipes too loud. As others said I would look for a 4.6L or if you can afford it a 35th Anniversary.

I'd pm Bob the Train if I were you he has a lovely Plus 8 he is thinking of selling. 50 cars away from mine production wise with similar spec. He has a very sound reason for selling.
