Driving on a fairly wide street at 30ish mph with parked cars on one side - put a few revs on and it set a car alarm off for some reason.
Is that normal?

Yes, mine does it too exercise extreme caution in covered car parks it can get embarrassing..

All part of the charm of a big V8. As has been said, underground car parks are the best (worst?) Side pipes are best as the pressure pulse is aimed directly at the cars along side you. Many car alarms are pressure change sensitive.....

Not an issue with Stanley  however big vee twin motorbikes have a similar effect.

Yes - with dual sidepipes you can do rows at a time in closed multi-story car parks.
Naughty but nice.
