Me? I'd keep the CLC. From what you say, it hasnt got any problems and its reasonably economical on fuel and very very economical on depreciation. Why change - family cars arent meant to be fun and never are fun. An exciting Yeti - yes, sure! Or a really "special" Golf GTI

The urge to change is always there but sometimes needs to be suppressed. If the hay bails are still involved then something with a posh interior would be a challenge.
Carrying capacity Agile and rewarding handling Enough power to be good for overtaking on the narrow main roads down here.
Previous shape C class estate with 350D engine in a nice trim ? Slightly older good condition AMG 6.3 Estate would be my first option. The older V8 is a naughty beast but beware as it goads you into revving it to hear the noise and feel the cam change. By which you are going fast.
BMW 5 Series Estate with 535i or 530/535D engine. I know you disliked the 3 series you had but the 5 series without M suspension is a much smoother experience. Actually the 5 Series GT (length of an estate but hatchback design. may be interesting, they are not so popular but are well priced and nicer than the standard 5 Series due to the long wheelbase.
Octavia Estate is quite good with the petrol GTi engine.

With daily drivers there's often more fun to be had in looking than in buying!
And wait long enough and the urge can diminish.

And wait long enough and the urge can diminish. I'm a bit like that, but have yet to see anything to tempt me away from my Citroen DS3. Also, Susie insists I don't change her Fiat Panda, despite my offering. She did however show some interest in a VW Up, so who knows!

Caroline will not have anything that looks like a SUV, she hated the Evoque with a passion. Drove it but once. Based on the "3 door hatch" logic I suggested one of THESE but was shot down on ground clearance...!! Would be my choice , lots of power !

This car was designed by Ken Greenley, former head of the automotive design course at the Royal College of Art in London. The design goal was to capture the essence of a luxury yacht - something for both of you then Peter - HERE Only just seen the link. That is hideous!
