I've a short door 4/4 too, but as a 4-seater the tub is a little bit higher. But I recognize the problem, although I'm flexible enough for my 60 years.
Wear sturdy (older) pants, dark colors can be handy if afraid for stains, and be careful with new and expensive (leather-yes!) jackets.

The relentless increase in the size of cars adds to congestion.

I much prefer small cars for many reasons. Black jeans and a black interior presents no problems with colour transfer.
No zips though except the fly........

But Dave there is an offset for this. As Audis are so large they have taken to driving very very close to the car in front to offset this? It makes them roughly the same in overall length in traffic.

To compensate for the M3W (1 wheel driven) I had to get a brand new Audi Q5 Quattro (4x4)
Nevertheless the evil Audi add-blue-diesel-engine burns 25% less than the tiny 3wheeler.

I think the long door trads are much easier to get in and out of. At least Mrs W hops in and out of ours like a bambi (well that might be a slight exaggeration), but she moves her derrière towards the centre then pivots on the leather seat with both legs over the sill. Actually easier for her than the Polo. The seat is a bit low for her to see over the dash and so a cushion helps a bit: might look at raising it.

We are soon looking to get a small powered wheelchair which will fold up neatly and go on the luggage rack. I am currently getting slick at putting the roof up and down. Anyone any ideas on how to use the roof as a partial tonneau cover on a four seater? Mine is an Alon White mohair job and the original owner had a ghastly black plasticky affair that he had designed. Try as I might, it would not go on. There are some studs at the side to potentially clip to (the obverse of these could be added to the current roof inner flap) and I was wondering about a cross bar held on the rear side screen thumb screws to support the front windscreen clip.

Dreamon, I'm about the same size and weight as yourself an OAP and probably less fit than yourself and have no problem with egress and exit but I suppose there is a knack to it. Hood up is a different story maybe but still no problem. Don't blame the car, seek advice from an old codger like me (Robbie maybe ) and go for it!

I get in and out using the Caterham style.

Left leg in and head first. Then swing bum in and drag your right leg in ( with aid of your arms).

Getting out is the same.

That said I am about 60kgs and 5’7 (ok I am a midget) LOL

I disagree with the Gomog instructions for exiting the car. The easiest way (for me) is:

-Slide the seat fully back and open the door
-Put your right (for RHD) foot out of the car
-Put left (for RHD) knee towards the centre of the car and the left foot towards the door to get your left foot out of the car, pivot towards the door as you do this
-Slide forward a little
-Stand

No heaving, straining or stressing bits of bodywork involved and works fine with the roof up. It comes naturally to me as I was in a body brace for six months after having my spine fixed up and I was taught to get in and out of cars without twisting.
