Can you not just whip out the fuse for the fuel pump?

That was my first thought too but both Oakmere and BHM said that the ECU would not allow the engine to turn over without that fuse. Both companies assure me that the engine will not come to any harm when it's started after a long layup as long as I don't touch the accelerator for a minute or two. However I'd be much happier if I could turn it over and not fire it up until sufficient oil has circulated but maybe that's just me having an old fashioned view of cars. Worthers +8

In lieu of the management not allowing it to turn over without fuel I think the coil is probably is easiest solution to keep the engine turning over without firing.
I need to take a look next time I open the bonnet and see if this is accessible or feasible.

I need to take a look next time I open the bonnet and see if this is accessible or feasible. That would be great, I had look but wasn't sure what I was looking for! The next time I'm home I'll try starting the car without the fuel pump fuse and see if their right. I cannot see that that will cause problem the car will either turn over or not. Worthers +8

I don't think it has a coil pack on an Aero model?
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I don't think it has a coil pack on an Aero model? Had a look through some Aero pics of mine and it looks like the coils are individually located on each spark plug rather than HT leads connecting to a remote coil, if they all attach to a loom with a plug though - that could be disconnected and would have the desired effect..unless the ECU refuses to fire as it notes the fault. Unfortunately my Aero is in bed at the moment, so I haven't had a play around in a while!

The complexity of the BMW B8 is such that I think Id want to talk to a BMW technician before trying anything like that.
it might be fine, or you could end up with a fried ignition module that would VERY expensive to replace.

it might be fine, or you could end up with a fried ignition module that would VERY expensive to replace. Very good point, funnily enough I am at my local BMW dealer this week for a service on my other car so if I remember (big if sometimes!  ) I will ask the question.
