Just about to do my Amazon order for holiday reading and there is a bewildering amount of published material on the marque. Anyone have any recommendations for 'must have' Morgan reading material?

To perhaps limit the suggestions a bit; do you already have any books about Morgan?

A good starting point is, perhaps, the: "Morgan - First and last of the Real Sports Cars"; Gregory Houston Bowden. Another book, about the four-wheelers, is the "Morgan: The Last Survivor"; Chris Harvey. Or perhaps "Morgan 100 Years". By Charles Morgan and Gregory Houston Bowden. Then there are lots of other books of course.

Morgan at Le Mans by David Dowse was an excellent read. The story behind the 2003 Le Mans Aero entry. Superb warts and all account of the intense work and sacrifice to take this on with minimum resorces. Not a book full of stats and records but a very real story of difficult relationships and struggle. I found it almost embarrasing in its honesty but a compulsive read. The other good news is that it is discounted at Amazon.

If you have now ordered these two, IMHO I wouldn't bother about Houston Bowden's "Morgan- First and Last of the Real Sports Cars" because to some extent the newer book replicates some of what was said in the earlier one. ( it also uses a lot of photos which originally appeared in John Worrall's "Original Morgan"

Further down the line, you might take a look at Jonathan Wood, " Morgan- Performance Plus Tradition" ( Haynes) and Martyn Webb's " Morgan Malvern and Motoring", (Crowood)

If you want a different angle, have you come across Chris Lawrence's biography- "Morgan Maverick"?

I know it's a bit off the subject but, keen Morgan fan that I am, I still think the best motoring books I I've read over the last two years are Chris Nixon's " Mon Ami, Mate" and Tony Bailey and Paul Skilleter's " Mike Hawthorn- Golden Boy" but that's probably due to the fact that it's that era of motor sport I find most interesting nerd

Have you read TOK258 - Morgan Winner at Le Mans by Ronnie Price - Gerwyn, quite a slim volume, but one I think you might like? smile

besides the usual suspects - Original Morgan [Worrall/Turner] and Morgan Exploration [Miller] I enjoyed re-reading 'The Vintage Years of the Three Wheeler Morgan' [Bill Boddy] only 27 pages, I bought my copy in 1971 for 30p but long out of print now so specialist sellers only I expect

Hi Brian,
Yes, I've read a few of Ronnie Price's' books- as you say, slim but a really good read. A non- Morgan book you might want to take a look at ( if you haven't already) is: " Freddie Dixon- The Man with the Heart of Lion" ( Haynes, I think?)
I'm a huge Riley fan, so it was a No- Brainer for me
Cheers,G

Thanks Gerwyn, I was brought up on the exploits of Freddie Dixon as my father was one of his no: 1 fans! Great book, which is still in my library.

I met Ronnnie Price at the 2006 LMC, absolutely charming chap and we headed back north for a few days in tandem with him and his good lady. Never thought to ask him if he had written anything else, I'll Google it and see what's available, or any recommendations?

Last time I met him at the Centenary he said that he's sadly had to sell his Mog due to ill-health, but was still managing the occasional round of golf.

Seems we have a similar taste in motoring books. flag
