My mate at work has just purchased a new Mx5 with the targa top.
He took me for a ride at lunch time. It's a great car. Very nicely made with a plush leather interior, lovely ride, no draughts and a silky smooth hard hood. It was less than half the price of a Plus 4.
Would I change my Morgan for this? No.
It has no character. It's superb at what it does, just like a Boxster, and even my Golf, but I don't want this in a hobby car.
The trad Morgan is what it is. I love the ride. I love the easy up hood and how it sits on the rear panel. I don't want modern suspension, thanks very much.

I agree soft tops leaked in the classic era, but I'd like to use my Morgan more frequently, and for my wife to enjoy it. She always looks dapper and doesn't always want a bucket of water in her lap, nor to have to wear a deep sea diver's suit every time out.
Especially as Dave W has demonstrated a very simple fix. It would be rather perverse to insist on her getting wet just because the world used to be better in the old days.
However, I never tire of reading 'I never put the hood up', it makes threads more interesting every time it's repeated

I never tire of reading 'I never put the hood up Whenever I read that, I always assume it's because the driver never takes the car out if there's the slightest chance of rain.

My AH goes out in the rain and in downpours it leaks along the top rail corners, but it's easy to mop up, showers are fine. Neither is worth worrying about and it's a small price to pay for the enjoyment the car brings otherwise.
Of course I can get an almost airtight environment in my tin top but that bores me to death.

I’m due a factory visit. Not been for 29 years. I’ll have a peek into the R&D dept. and see if slide rules have been introduced. The gap above the windscreen must be calculable dependent upon the airspeed. You will not be allowed anywhere near the R&D department. It is firmly out of bounds to visitors never mind most of the factory staff. They certainly don’t sit on their backsides playing computer games as you suggest. They are very busy with future cars! Exciting times ahead 🤓

Sorry, I’ve revealed it - but you can peep through the knothole in the door. I’m saying no more.

Oh, forgot to mention that the current Mx5 appears to have much less luggage space than a trad Morgan!!!
The boot isn't much bigger than the Morgan behind the seats.
