It wasn't being driven by the owner.

The driver, Scott, was taking it to the Peter Saywell Track day at Goodwood, an event where supercars take the paying public on laps of the motor circuit. It raises a lot of money for charity.

Unfortunately the weather on Saturday down here was dire.

Effectively a high powered race car registered for the road. Just lucky he didn't take out some young mum taking a few kids somewhere.

Rich.
I’ve also seen seen a couple of examples with high powered bikes.
One 40 something who had passed his test on a GS500 a year before, bought a stunning nearly new Ducati 1098 Tricolore, Arai lid and a full set of new Dainese kit.
He left the dealership and half an hour later, over cooked a bend and binned it.
He got away with a broken arm and hand. His 1098 was only fit for spares.
I suspect that his wife forbade any further bikes.

Likely. The key word is "convoy". I used to go out on group rides on my bike but very rarely do so now because men in a group tend to show off or at least try to keep up with each other. The result is what starts as a sensible ride out ends as a semi race.

Plus the performance of cars like the Zonda has got to such heights that its completely unuseable on the roads.

Was it BMW ?

I bought a Vauxhall 2l. engined Caterham HPC back in the early '90s with a High Performance Course thrown in for free, (hence the model designation),there was some publicity about not being allowed to buy the car if the option of the course wasn't taken up.

I cannot remember if other manufacturers did something similar, if not, it would be a good idea, more so these days than ever before.
