Exactly - well put David!

You read my mind .
I remember last year when I wrote about Hamilton and the more than sour replies then . I put it mildly

I totally agree with David.
Lewis Hamilton is certainly the best F1 driver I have ever seen, although I cannot remember beyond Jackie Stewart, and whats more he's English, lets hope he continues for some time yet and challenges Michael Schumacher's record.

Does it justify a knighthood though? Granted he is an outstanding driver but what else has he done......supported charities etc?

I’ve never particularly warmed towards him, he is too petulant when not winning and there are far nicer F1 drivers around. But I do admire his driving ability.

Worthers; is your inability to remember down to your youth, or poor memory?


ps very interesting to read Jenson Button's comment about Lewis, in Jenson's recent autobiography.

pps: I really admire all top line F1 and LMC drivers. Anyone that can race a car with their skill and be fit enough to deal with 5G braking forces is a bit of a star in my book.

And the cohorts of civil servants who are paid to do a job who are not exposed to either personal or financial risk. How deserving are they?

I neither support or decry any claim for knighthood and it is not in my or his gift to ask for one.

Others will decide and no doubt there'll be another tedious thread with those decrying the award and those who feel he deserves it.

I agree. Sir Jackie Stewart deservingly had his knighthood for what he has achieved for the betterment of racing since he retired from the sport. The sad passing recently of John Surtees, a truly humble man who was world champion on two and four wheels was never Knighted. The whole honour system is a farce imho.

Sir Jackie Stewart has been retired from racing a long time and so I'm sure has more time to devote to charity work

Regarding John Surtees; the rumour in the industry was that he turned down a knighthood. Can't confirm the rumour, but this was from people who had worked with him.
