I’ve ridden BMW GS models for many years and whilst I’ve come across GS riders who dismiss the likes of H-D for instance, I’ve always taken it as a bit of a lighthearted banter. I have always acknowledged riders of everything that is a motorised two wheeler.....to me it is the biking that counts.

Today I rode over to park up at the Devils Bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale for a bacon butty and coffee. Parked my BMW R9T Scrambler by a crowd of GS and Triumph Adventure bikes and in spite of me saying “hi” as I normally do, I was totally ignored! Perhaps my outfit of open face helmet, Spada wax jacket ( Morgan’s M3W jacket by the way and an excellent one too!) and jeans, just didn’t cut the mustard with their “round the world” adventure gear?
All was not lost, a couple of H-D riders came over for a chat!

It has made me rather glad to have moved away from the GS/ Avdenture bikes and their “culture”

Years ago I found the same sort of thing in the pedal cycle world. Racing boys wouldn't acknowledge us on our touring bikes. You just have to put it down to ignorance.

John,
sorry to hear that. I don't get the HD thing but I would always wave in my bike owning days& I always move over for a bike regardless of make.

Similarly I will wave at all classic car drivers.

Mind you we went to Kirby Lonsdale on the Morgans at Windermere event and I remember the bikers over the bridge being very dismissive of me & my Morgan centenary jacket. hide

Maybe it is the stuck up Northern folk.

John

I apologise for the thread drift, but has anyone seen the Yamaha MOTOBOT robotics experiment..? I find this all kinda spooky, and wonder why but it's real.

A robot that raced Valentino Rossi..gulp..!

Mind you, no-one chatted with this either, Jay..

There could be a number of other reasons for their behaviour other than their choice of bike. Didn't hear you. Too busy wishing they had your bike. Despondency at their journey home. etc etc!

Heck I even know nice Audi and BMW drivers! wink

I stopped at a bikers cafe on the way home from the factory a couple of weeks ago in the M3W, dozens of bikes there of all sorts. I was totally ignored, or rather the car was, apart from 3 enthusiastic lads that kept me chatting for about half an hour. Strange..........
