Sadly, on both the A303 and A417 we have met oncoming vehicles crossing the double lines. On the 417, we were going towards the M5 (on our way back from visiting daughter in Oxford) and were confronted with a truck in lane 1, a van in lane 2 and a BMW on our side of the road, all coming towards us.
A very near miss.

Steve, the only way to stop such stupidity (apart from large barriers) is much greater police presence. The vehicle make in your lane is no surprise though...  Another reason to run with a dashcam

Around here they have started putting double white lines down the centre of all two lane country roads from one end to the other. In short they are making overtaking illegal.

Unfortunately those that need them will ignore them just as they do the speed limits round here.
