So tomorrow is the day V888 MOG is collected from BHM and pointed at Scotland. Looks like I've picked the worst possible day, the forecast looks terrible. Still, all part of the adventure.
I looked at the Isle of Man Steam Packet crossing Manxmog but its a bit pricey. Definitely worth it of I was staying on the island for a few days but have to be in N.I. on Sunday.
Sunday will be its first blast down the Antrim coast road en-route to an Ulster Fry and a pot of tea in Bushmills. What chance sunshine? Looking pretty good at the moment.

I've always been a bike fan and so has an old mate of mine ( started infants school on the same day!)

His wife is from Ballymoney, so we always have a good excuse to come over for the NW. I think at one time we were the South Wales Branch of the Woolsey Coulter Appreciation Society. ( (It got a bit tricky because Jason Griffiths' father used to fettle our bikes!!)

Interesting! Some archive pictures from the old circuit there when they used to go along the prom in Portstewart.
I used to go every year between about 1984 to 1995. We always used to sit at the pits. There's nothing quite like a grid start on public roads. 2 waves of 36 bikes blasting off to the first corner at well over than 100mph. The top speed trap time this year was 204mph! indeed!

The Beeb hiked up the coverage this year and I was able to watch the racing from Belgium on my pc Hopefully they will repeat that next year

Well I am now back having done some serious research on your behalf fellow morganeers.
Having collected the car from BHM

and enjoyed a fine lunch in The Chasers Inn (recommended by Sarah and very good indeed) we headed North. It was a disastrous start, 2 hours of queueing for the Dartford Crossing.

What a nightmare but any fears of overheating were banished after that. The plus 8 took it all in its stride. I'll cut out the plod up the M1 and M6

and get straight to the point.
A bit of a miscalculation and a handbag shop near Penrith that was very appealing to Mrs Flowman meant we needed to step on it in order to catch our ferry at Stranraer. We had been through some rain on the way past Shap but the roof had stayed down. The sun was now shining and that glorious evening I enjoyed one of the best drives of my life. The further I drove my new friend the more I loved it and by the time I reached the A75 I was ready for a bit of a blast. Wow! Luckily there was little traffic and the A75 is surprisingly smooth, perfect Plus 8 country. By the time we reached Creetown we were ahead of schedule again and able to stop to take in the view and savour the moment.


What a beautiful spot, and what a fantastic drive. The HSS from Stranraer to Belfast awaited (very good indeed) and some more superb roads.
When I have grappled with Photobucket some more I will post some pics from the other side of the Irish sea.

A75.
Travelled that over many a year, watching it turn from a narrow twisting almost B road into a much wider, more open with long sweeping bends fast A road. Of course once it was opened up, various speed checking devices were added!
It's still a pleasant drive - always wanted to take a bike along there...

First time I drove the A75 was in 1981 and, as you said, it was a twisting B road back then. 3 hours from Stranraer to Carlisle in an Alfa Spider. Now it's normally around 2 hours.

You are right about the speed checks Graham but 60mph feels like 90 in a Morgan! All the fun and no problem with traffic constables! Not the same on a bike however......
