Have car headlights got brighter recently?? To reach my office i have to drive through the c class roads through and around Woburn park. When returning home in rush hour the roads are quite busy. When faced with a stream of twenty cars coming towards me it is extremely difficult to see the edge of the road due to dazzle despite sitting up high in an SUV. It would be worse in the Mog as it is a lot lower.
Have the lights changed or is it just an age thing?

It amazed me last night to see how many people drive around with one headlight out, then think it's OK to drive on main beam to compensate.

I commented on this to a friend just the other day. Yes, headlights have changed, HID (high-intensity discharge) and LED (light emitting diode) lights are MUCH brighter than filament bulbs, even halogen filled types. With a Mog or any low slung sports car it is a real problem, especially exacerbated if the oncoming vehicle is a truck or SUV.

Ditto to Ray’s post. Plus lack of indicating and tailgating.

I thought it was me so I’m pleased to see others experiencing it. Both our cars have the ultra bright lights so I am one of the guilty ones as well as a victim!

I'm not saying it's anyone on here, I'm not having a go, but one thing that I have noticed is that there's a fair correlation between people who complain of being dazzled at night and those people who wear inexpensive spectacles, especially varifocals.
The difference in clarity of vision at night when wearing good-quality lenses is far more noticeable than it is in the daytime. I know from personal experience just how hellishly expensive decent spectacles can be, but buying cheap stuff can be a false economy in circumstances like this.

I don't wear spectacles and still get dazzled.
Many new cars now have automatic dip beams - and they're not very good.

I agree good spectacles are a must! was also reading that 40% people driving should be wearing them and don't. Also as an auto electrician in notice that so many headlamp bulbs are wrongly fitted!! don't know how its harder to fit them wrong than to do it correctly!!!!!

An excellent example of the creeping infantilisation of adults which seems to beendemic in 21st century life. Years ago we had manual dipswitches and people were taught to use them to prevent dazzling oncoming drivers. Now that auto-dipping lights are available, people assume they are suitable for use in all conditions and fail to accept any responsibility for ensuring they are used appropriately.
