Nice work, the end result looks good.

Given the known sensitivity of the OEM circuit to moisture, does this modification provide an opportunity to mount the PCB in a sealed box with a quantity of silica gel sachets?

it would indeed, but to be honest, I haven't bothered. I just wrapped the whole thing in cling film an hope that it should do.
