Alistair Thanks for information and explanation on buying Bitcoins via Blockchain.
Wanted to buy a part of one for ages.Bought just 500 pounds to see how it goes.
They have gone up 14 % this week.Worth a punt .

Don't be afraid to bail early and consider that you might have made more but could also have lost a lot more if it gets furry.

I know 10:1 people who have said "god I wish I had got out earlier" than "I could have made another 10% if I had held on for another day.

Lets face it there are few if any investments that have made 14% in one week. There may well be a good reasons for that but making hay while the sun shines remains a legal permission. idea

The crypto horse has long bolted. It will be interesting to see how attempts at regulation unfold.

It's like any other investment. When values become volatile, the tolerance of investors varies according to how much they paid.
The last in will often be the first to bail, and will create a domino effect.

I was offered a '68 E Type in 1976 for £1500.
And declined.

Thanks Alistair for the explanation although I don’t think my brain can compute it. The analogy to me seems a bit like buying tins of fresh Cornish Air.

Couldn't you once buy tins of London smog? I'm sure I saw an advert down the tube way back.

I suspect that Bitcoin is no longer a medium of exchange in the normal sense of the term in that it is now rarely used to buy goods or services. I suspect that now it is mainly bought and sold as an "investment". It is true that many of the shares exchanged on the stock market are bought and sold in the same way but at least most of them have an underlying value in company assets. Perhaps mining shares in exploration companies would be the closest comparison and even then there is some expectation that the exploration will find something of value.

This incredible jump in values has as much sense as if suddenly a group of people decided to start trading in Greek goverment bonds and sent the nominal €100 value to €18,000 just on the basis that they are promoted as an investment to make money by trading them.
