Went for a wander and a coffee this afternoon and found this parked outside the coffee shop. Beautifully restore with a hand traficator, but showing signs of being used and loved. Never seen one before.

Very familiar in my youth, our greengrocer had one, with an awning and staging on the flatbed. Fruit and veg displayed, he used to call round 2 days a week.
Most here have long rusted away, but in the warm salt free and mostly dry streets of Aus they clearly endure a bit better!

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is a 'hand trafficator'?? Also, in the photo, there is a plate just below the window and vertically along the door hinge line that appears to be riveted or screwed on. What is this, it looks like it has a purpose??

You put your hand out the windows to signal if you were going right or left still part of the Driving test I'm told in the 60's in the UK.

It seems this K8 (?) got suicide doors and the plate below the side window is covering the place of the original door handle. https://www.google.at/search?q=austin+k8

Cheers, Before electric signal lights were in use many trucks (or lorries, if you prefer) had a sort of mechanical hand on an arm that was hinged able to indicate turn or stop (the stop signal doubled as turn left for right hand drive vehicles. I could not find a decent photo but the one below will giive you the idea.

Found some that show the idea better. The hand is moveable to be either straight out or up in the stop position.
