The information i have from the pharmacist at the Chemists is that if I have one of the "old" strains that were included in both the 2016 and 2017 vaccine I will have an element of resistance.

So it is either that, or just "man flu", as we all know there is no cure for that....

But if I had a flu strain that is not covered with the vaccine I would be exactly as you describe, and with my lung damage, possibly be in hospital. It can kill, particularly the young, as the poor lass in Scotland found out. Just 18.

But we are, hopefully, a long long way from the 1919 H1N1 strain.

According to the NHS the current flu vaccine cocktail covers the following:-

Most injected flu vaccines protect against 3 types of flu virus:
A/H1N1 – the strain of flu that caused the swine flu pandemic in 2009
A/H3N2 – a strain of flu that mainly affects the elderly and people with risk factors like a long-term health condition. In 2017/18 the vaccine will contain an A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 H3N2-like virus
Influenza B – a strain of flu that particularly affects children. In 2017/18 the vaccine will contain B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus

The nasal spray flu vaccine and some injected vaccines also offer protection against a fourth B strain of virus, which in 2017/18 is the B/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus.

Since last Friday I was in bed till this Thursday with all the symptoms described by Peter J. My wife and our oldest daughter who was visiting us over Xmas days as well.
The high temperature, chills, freeze and dry chesty and whisteling cough was not enjoyable but even not the worst symptom. I never before had experienced when dealing with a flu or just temperature that I have no appetite at all and up to now.

When I try to eat something it tastes much too salty and the whole taste sensoring mechanism is confused. Nothing of the kind of food which I like most normally tastes any good, the opposite is the case. Plus I like no beer or wine or coffee at the moment, only a whisky in the evening tastes as it should.

Bad luck Heinz. I had similar appetite symptoms when I had pneumonia several years ago. Not funny at all.

Sorry to hear the Christmas break was messed up for you all Heinz and wish you all a speedy recovery.

We both had flu last year and both of us had all the symptoms described above plus a 20 hour period of complete incapacitation. Worse though was going back to work and having it described as “man-flu” by HR.

I feel my self lucky then as I have just had a cold.
