Graham / Bud, Slight problem with both of these solutions is that you you'd need to take the luggage off in order to open the boot and get to the filler cap. It'd work as a solution if you were staying at your neighbours

So far, the way I've packed for longer trips is:
- I use a suit carrier (or two) in the central vertical slot. - then treat that central horizontal area as a flat surface, and pack bags over the vertical slot. 3x40 litre carry-on bags fit there. - the side verticals get stuffed with a small soft bag - the side horizontal I treat as two areas - there's a picnic rug stuffed in the upper part on one side, and a towel-roll of dog stuff on the other. - that leaves the rest for loose jackets. And the soft top compartment carries an umbrella... and could carry more, if needed.
oh, and Eagle Creek bags to minimise the packing volume of my stuff. 'er ladyship hasn't yet hit the point where she needs to bring less, or choose to compress with Eagle Creek.

Thanks for the offer. Two problems though Mrs A likes her creature comforts and that case looks bloody heavy and won't help my bad back. Now if you drove a bit quicker problems wouldn't happen

Sorry should have added I've found a man whose going to make me some custom sized bags so this way we only end up with a few rather than lots of bags filling random spaces.

I remember looking in the boot of the S5 at Geneva and thinking it rather woeful.
The SS has 310l and is full depth - has the fuel tank been rotated 90deg in the S5? Didn't the Aeromax have a high floor boot too?
