I finally nailed an annoying coolant drip that only occurred when the engine was left cooling down, it turned out to be on the top radiator hose, a quick smear of high temp silicon and new jubilee clip now ok. But while searching I noticed that the bottom hose was rubbing against the nearside brake pipe and was down to the first layer of braid. Easily bent out of the way and worth a check if you have a similar Roadster.  hose by Ian David Bell, on Flickr

Thanks for that important information. I don‘t have a pic right now bit I would like to WARN all who have a modern 4/4 with additional brake reaction bars. Recently I saw that on both sides at front the brake hoses are rubbing against this reaction bars and have to be substituted immediately. I will take braided steel brake lines then.

Thanks for that important information. I don‘t have a pic right now bit I would like to WARN all who have a modern 4/4 with additional brake reaction bars. Recently I saw that on both sides at front the brake hoses are rubbing against this reaction bars and have to be substituted immediately. I will take braided steel brake lines then. Heinz, I noticed this issue on Aldermog after fitting Brake reaction bars. I took the cheap way out, by slitting along the length of suitable silicone tubing and sliding over the brake hose, securing with a thin strip of silicone rubber along the cut. The silicone hose was free to move and it seems that this protects the rubber brake hose sufficiently.

So it should be an effective protection for everyone with brake reaction bars on a Trad model, because the brake hoses touch the bars when steering every corner.

Current trads have braided brake hoses, which can be disguised by the black underseal, so check them out. Having said that I also added a cover tube as Peter suggested.
Oh and the chafing in the first post of this thread is not unusual, and all hoses need regular checks.

Braided hoses can get chafed too.... My 8 suffered a major oil loss when the hoses to the oil cooler got worn through. Replaced under warranty - but was a bit worrying.
