Halfords or just about any car shop that sells car cleaning products will sell a clay bar

Tear it in half and flatten out a to disk in your fingers

Use Meguairs Detailer spray as a lubricant or a spray bottle with water and a bit of car shampoo

And lightly rub over the paintwork

When the clay gets grubby just squash it up in your hands and flatten out again

If it falls to the floor - throw away

Interestingly the Meguairs chaps used much more lubricant that I had previously been using which made it even easier so plenty of spray and buff off with a really soft microfibre after

Howard, I had not used the clay bar until the weekend at Megiuars. The key to using the clay bar is to use a lubricating spray on the bodywork and on the clay bar whilst using it. The clay bar has to be warmed by neading it in your hand and then flatten it out to a piece about the size of your palm. It was recommended that you split the clay bar in two so that if one piece fell on the floor you can throw it away and use the other clean piece.

So plenty of spray, light pressure and regular folding in of the contaminated clay.

Halfords sell it.

Stewart beat me to it.

T cut or such like will do that job.

Isn’t that what Essex girls use as a foundation for their make-up?

For instructional videos go to youtube and search.
You could try the Meguiars site too. They could well have “how to” vids on there.
Halfords sell a Meguiars clay kit too. Good starter kit.

Stewart, like the springs. Are they flexible or very resistant? I think you should re-examine the two thin straps option to maximise the unique nature of the accessory.
Look forward to the finished result.

Very resistant

I am revisiting the twin bonnet strap idea but so I’m investigating how to machine some stainless steel bonnet strap guides that I can stick on the bonnet as I don’t want to drill any holes in the bonnet for strap staples
