I suspect that modern cars are more reliable than those of 20 years ago. The BIG difference is, I suspect, that the owner cannot do anything to fix the problem at the roadside. A laptop and specialist knowledge is essential for even trivial issues.
For more an more cars even a flat tyre results in a recovery call out: this is, in my view, nuts! The reason given by the dealer is that this saves weight: I don't believe it.

My old CLC has a spare, another reason to keep it!

Thoughts?

when did you last have a puncture? I do 20k miles a year and havent had a puncture in at least 20 years probably 30 - except on the motorbike ( lots of dropped screws in the boatyard compound) and that cant carry a spare anyway.

Within weeks of buying the Ford Fusion last year Howard. A nail and a screw in one tyre - so no plugging it.
Had another one 3 weeks later - in the new tyre! banghead

Most of the tyre places have their own "upsell" tools these days. One of them is puncture insurance. Given the cost of some of the tyres and road maintenance budgets these days perhap you could consider it?
