it was a sombre misty morning in an isolated corner of Lincolnshire and through the murk I could see the crew give the thumbs up as I approached the familiar shape for the first time.

I slid into the cockpit, familiarised myself with the surroundings, switched on the ignition and pressed the start button.

The gauges came alive and then THAT sound hits you...that sound that captures the attention.

My ears prick up to the insistent and glorious rhythmic beat of the engine and the crackle and bark of the exhaust as the revs increase.

Just then a solitary ray of sunshine broke through the mist and danced along the louvred aluminium covers.

Pre flight checks complete, all clear given by the crew and I seize the controls and taxi out onto the tarmac...

Oscar Wilde said that "anticipation is better than arrival"..not in this case!!!!

In case you haven't guessed today was the day I picked up my Almond Green Supersport.

It can be docile in traffic and well behaved but when you press the righthand pedal the noise, the induction roar, the controlled drama when the revs exceed 5000 rpm is exhilarating..I'm sure I will never tire of this !!!

I have the car set up in track day mode and it is totally planted on the road and it inspires "spirited" driving.

Yes it can be docile but it can be Fast and Furious.

The mid range torque is exceptional (I found the ARP4 disappointing in this respect).

The cockpit is a nice place to be..all 60's in feel with its Brookland banjo style steering wheel, toggle switches, twin stopwatches, light ash dashboard and rally navigators light...it exudes a spirit of competition experience.

For me it is the ideal combination of a reliable modern Morgan with a large injection of the 60's racing spirit.

At the age of 67 I shouldn't get this excited but today was a good day.

I'm going to play now and learn to use my weapon of choice!!!

That does look wonderful.

Re the hood - you need a teaspoon to lever it off the windscreen studs more easily. Worth going for one per side until all off to avoid straining the screen.

Once it is down, you may never need it again ;-)

Great post

Love your enthusiasm and the new Mog looks the business

(Rather jealous of the decals and a splash of yellow detailing)

Same experience I have when I start the 3.9 carbed V8 in My +8 Bitsa. As I built it myself it weighs 1,800 lbs and has oversized brakes both front disks and back drums. What a joy!
