Those are spherical joints. The arm will swing freely on an axis passing through their centers.

This front modification has been done by Alain A french Man near Biarritz
Ten kit were made And mine is the last one
Good sensation with it.
I make News mudguards in aluminium 300 G each versus 3kg the Morgan one.

Those mudguards look excellent Raphy .. Two more fine examples of owners carrying out MMC R&D  .. You are a bit of a Colin Chapman on the quiet  .

That looks like a similar geometry to the Empire kit, I imagine the results will be very similar. The lighter mudguards will improve matters as well. It makes you wonder why Morgan didn't try harder to get below the 450Kg tax break. A lighter radiator cowl would go a good way towards it easily.
