AVO's are easily adjustable using a knurled 'nut' so can be tailored to your preference very easily. Beware of aftermarket exhausts. The one fitted to my Roadster had a resonance which came in at 70 which made motorways a real chore. I switched back to standard and don't regret it for a minute. Interestingly though, the chap who bought my sports system despite my warnings, loves the noise. So horses for courses.

Thanks Dave - that's what is worrying me a bit. I have the option to fit sports boxes at the PDI, and then change them if I don't like the result (Melvyn Rutter). I love a nice exhaust note, like everybody else, but don't want to be overwhelmed on a long journey, and wish I hadn't made the change. In any case, I suppose Rutters use Librands? I'll ask.
On the AVO's, it's a way of softening or hardening the movement easily, which is better. At least you feel you're able to get what suits, more or less. They're not expensive at £60 each, if thy make a noticeable difference. What settings i.e. differences from the factory set-up, did you settle for, or do you adjust them according to your mood...?

The standard dampers on my Roadster were not adjustable. In fact I still have them in the garage 'as new'. You really need to experiment with AVO settings. I started with zero cclicks. That gave front end float, so over time I progressed to four clicks all round. It goes to about twelve, but four gives a nicely damped ride, which is much better than my old MGBV8 was on 15% uprated lever arms. That was bouncy, which the Morgan isn't. A colleague at work has a Smart Car, and we both agree that the Smart has a much worse ride than the Morgan - both harder and bouncier.

Where roughly are you located Allan? near Rutters?

Rutter's is as close as anyone, and it's a quick trip (A1/A14 etc.) Also got a great deal trade-in from Audi with Melvyn's help. Thanks for the tip on the AVO's - I'll get a set pre-ordered and keep the "old" ones as you have.
I did own a Smart, and agree about the pitching on anything except a smooth road.

Only ever driven one Smart. Hated it!

Hi Dave - at last I have my Roadster, and celebrated by making a trip to Scotland (900 miles in 5 days). I have to say that all my dreams (and maybe a nightmare or two) were realised in that time. I did have the sports silencers fitted to see if I could tolerate them, and found out I couldn't, particularly with the added wind noise at 70. They'll be replaced with standards next week. The suspension is definitely being seen to at the same time as I hated the lack of compliance with the road and terror of hidden bumps on corners in the wet. I don't know what brand of shocks are fitted, but if they aren't adjustable, I'll have them changed.

Hi Dave - well, the straight-throughs are now in the loft above my garage, waiting to see if I forgive them for the din and the headaches.
I asked Rutter's also to change the shocks at the first service. Standard units are Konis, non-adjustable. Melvyn had Spaxes in stock, so I took the opportunity. His mechanic Peter set them at the softest setting, so I could gradually fiddle with them with experience.
Going back the 85 miles home from Rutters, I have to say I had been expecting a bigger difference "before and after", and certainly a bouncy ride. Not at all. It was as if nothing had really changed.
My feeling is that, to get suspension to respond, you need to have spring rate variable, too. The standard rock solid spring setup overcomes any attempt by the shocks to do their work. What's your feeling?
I can't load a picture of the car, as I don't have a website, but I'll look into setting one up.
