Following BGW’s recent threads about tyres for his 17-year old 4/4, he has had 190/60x15 fitted, and it sounds as if these were the original size. My 2005 4/4 had the 165/80x15 Contis fitted on 15x5” chrome wires and when I changed these to stainless I had Firestone F560s size 165x15 (no ratio!) fitted. These are now 10 years old and due to be changed. I see that 195/60x15 are 5% smaller in diameter, and of course are wider. Would that size fit my car (not a “low line”), or do I stick with 165/80x15? Or another size? Obviously I don’t want them to rub. There is much less choice in 165/80x15. I’m aware this has been discussed before but I can’t find an answer on the size, and the tyre choices keep changing.

185/70 HR15 presently on my 4/4. (Vedestein sprint classic).
195 size would have had problems with space and original rims I was told when I changed from 165/80 R15

For a 4/4 I reckon Vredestein Sprint Classics in 165/80 size are absolutely perfect. They are easily capable of coping with the power, and provide delightfully light and precise handling.

The default aspect ratio, if not listed, is 80%. Actually Graham , where no aspect ratio is shown on the tyre e.g. 165R15 the default ratio is nominally 82%  And that brings up my 200th post

I´m very happy with them, too. @nputtick Do you have a picture from your car with the 165x15 balloon tires? I think they look very classic.

Hi Jens, I will post a photo but I’m away at the moment. The Firestone F560 do look “classic” but that doesn’t really concern me. I think I’ll go for the Vred T-trac 2 as they are less than half the cost of the Sprint Classics here in the U.K.

Nick My understanding is that the Sprint classics are a basic tyre with an ‘enhanced’ price tag. Having discussed it with the area rep that came out to my house one day to inspect mine after I sent in some pics of some issues that I had. He did tell me the works cost price that I won’t repeat especially as he replaced my 3 year old tyres FOC. That said I would buy the classics again just for the look and the 185’s are a bit less skinny on my 4/4.
