Hmmm! - The market is ultimately driven by supply and demand, and the depreciation on most expensive cars is usually horrendous. I could afford to buy and run a Plus 8 but would struggle to justify the cost - probably double the price of a Plus 4. I think its the considerable financial jump for marginal utility that is the problem. Punitive ongoing big engine taxes don't help. If you are thinking about a nearly new Plus 8 though - big savings on list are a sweetner and I know owners love em' so if you want one get one. Just found this - oops! links deleted though. http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/109178/V8_Overpriced#Post109178

I think second hand +8 prices are more influenced by the cost of sterling than anything else.

I was going to buy a second hand boxster but went with the trad morgan. Two years into the Morgan it's worth more than I paid. The boxster would be worth far less. That's all you need to know. The Morgan is the only car for me

It is an interesting subject, as has been said already would a young gun buy a 4/4 or +4 over a Boxter, I doubt it, the appeal of a Morgan varies by person to person. It's a personal thing and for me the attraction is the way it makes me feel when it all comes together and everything is right in the world. Preferably a sunny Sunday morning, bendy B roads, no pot holes, no speed bumps, no adverse camber....it produces the biggest smile.. but...I don't get the tinkerers, everyone has their own reason as I have said, it's personal but in 2015 to buy a car that you need to grease every 1000 miles or less is quite frankly madness, the tinkerers love it, I read about people moving the fog light switch from one side of the dash to another, seriously , really, I am convinced some never actually drive the thing but tinker endlessly, but that's their choice and that is their attraction to a Morgan. For me I didn't purchase as an investment BUT the fact that she holds her value is certainly a big justification to keeping it and a justification not to sell and buy a rainproof, well made, lovely looking, no need to grease, service every 20k miles or so Boxter....I am not looking to make money from the Mog but I can't afford to throw the 'investment' away so should residual prices start to tumble I'd be off...... And here is me considering a boxster over my morgan at 63yrs of age. I've owned my morgan 5yrs now and keep thinking of buying a porsche boxster I'm missing my last porsche as it was far more comfortable on my knackered back ! Time does funny things to your brain (and your wallet )

Magwa this may sound like naughty stuff but have you had a go in an Aero as they do drive and handle like modern things. I realise they represent a bit more money and running costs but they are surprisingly comfy.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Which is sub 20k IMHO they are also "fugley" but it's good we are all different and have different tastes PS I did fancy a M3W...... Then I test drove one at a factory open day...... it was (being polite) Sh1t , poorly constructed, poorly performing and broke down on my test drive.... Nuff said & bought the 4 wheeler as I prefer to live if I want death experience I have a motorcycle

Personally as a young owner (27) I bought a Morgan for the classic looks but with modern (in some ways) underpinnings and reliability compared to my previous classic cars. Almost nothing else is available with similar ideas without a large increase in price.
However the greasing and maintenance elements haven't been an issue to me as I expected that, yet the lack of quality in fittings and fitment were, plus some of the misleading answers bordering on outright lies from the factory has left a sour taste. BHM have been brilliant and totally deserve their excellent reputation, just wish the factory were as helpful and open as they are.
Price wise they are expensive and I did serious baulk at the cost and almost went elsewhere, but the heritage and tradition is part of the price, however I will almost certainly never buy another unless I am extraordinarily lucky as the cost (new and used) is out of my league now, particularly when you see what you don't get as standard! I would love a Roadster or Aero but the figures just don't add up, although admittedly the Aero is in a different league.
When you compare the Morgan to the rest of the market it does stand alone in some respects, british built, british designed and focuses on old skills, but the chassis, suspension and overall quality do not match other cars for the price, something I think they need to focus on going forwards, maybe I am speaking out of turn but do RR and Bentley have difficulties with getting doors to fit properly etc? I understand that hand building a car does result in challenges that are not found in a mass production but you cannot expect customers to keep believing "they all do that sir" or "we have never heard of\had that before" lines from the factory.
I am interested to see where they go next now that the v8 engines have dried up and the chassis development has reached the end of the line (as I see it), maybe a shrunken aero chassis with the trad body?
Admittedly all my friends think I am crazy and cannot understand why I bought one and would sooner have a car along the lines of a Mercedes, BMW or MX-5 for the money, this does make me worry for the future of Morgan going forward in terms of attracting new younger customers. Even I am tempted to import the S660 from Japan at some point if I have enough spare cash in the future!
Just my 2p and apologies for the rambling!

When the original Trouble Shooters programme was aired 25 years ago and I'm a numbers person, the factory was doing about 400 cars a day. I'm guessing numbers but not calendars Eddie?

Yes Morgan produced 400 or so cars a year at the time of the John Harvey Jones programme.
With around 700 trads a year beeing produced now and more markets for them, there are still a good number of new trads in stock at UK dealers and a reasonable number secondhand trads to chose from.
Delivery of new cars is no longer and issue either these days.
I believe around three years ago there were more new cars sitting at dealers waiting for customers and some part built cars at the factory waiting for buyers choosing specs and colours.
Therefore the factory has increased the market I would say those years ago from a real 500 trads a year to 700 cars a year but there does seem to be a limit these days at 700 trads a year and they really need to make a good 100 to 150 aero replacement cars as well as some 3 wheel cars to cover the overhead of the increased engineering and design team now employed.
