Personally as a young owner (27) I bought a Morgan for the classic looks but with modern (in some ways) underpinnings and reliability compared to my previous classic cars. Almost nothing else is available with similar ideas without a large increase in price.
However the greasing and maintenance elements haven't been an issue to me as I expected that, yet the lack of quality in fittings and fitment were, plus some of the misleading answers bordering on outright lies from the factory has left a sour taste. BHM have been brilliant and totally deserve their excellent reputation, just wish the factory were as helpful and open as they are.
Price wise they are expensive and I did serious baulk at the cost and almost went elsewhere, but the heritage and tradition is part of the price, however I will almost certainly never buy another unless I am extraordinarily lucky as the cost (new and used) is out of my league now, particularly when you see what you don't get as standard! I would love a Roadster or Aero but the figures just don't add up, although admittedly the Aero is in a different league.
When you compare the Morgan to the rest of the market it does stand alone in some respects, british built, british designed and focuses on old skills, but the chassis, suspension and overall quality do not match other cars for the price, something I think they need to focus on going forwards, maybe I am speaking out of turn but do RR and Bentley have difficulties with getting doors to fit properly etc? I understand that hand building a car does result in challenges that are not found in a mass production but you cannot expect customers to keep believing "they all do that sir" or "we have never heard of\had that before" lines from the factory.
I am interested to see where they go next now that the v8 engines have dried up and the chassis development has reached the end of the line (as I see it), maybe a shrunken aero chassis with the trad body?
Admittedly all my friends think I am crazy and cannot understand why I bought one and would sooner have a car along the lines of a Mercedes, BMW or MX-5 for the money, this does make me worry for the future of Morgan going forward in terms of attracting new younger customers. Even I am tempted to import the S660 from Japan at some point if I have enough spare cash in the future!
Just my 2p and apologies for the rambling! It's good to hear a younger persons perspective on the buying and owning experience and many of your points have been said before, not a ramble just a balanced view in my opinion. Keep the faith if you can.

Another difference between a Porsche Boxster and a Morgan is the wait; you'll be looking at a minimum of a year on the Porsche, while I'm lead to believe a new Morgan would be 2 months.

Sorry to hear that Rylan. If you go to the breakfast club next Saturday I'll give you a pep talk!!!!
As you've probably read, we have just done 1,232 miles around the Scottish Highlands in Tigger. The car performed faultlessly (yeah I'm tempting fate), and loosened up considerably as I drove him quite hard over superb roads. Everywhere we went, doors were opened which wouldn't have been in any other car. The Morgan, and the Scottish Highlands make an unbeatable combination.
You need to factor in the lack of depreciation with a Morgan against the serious depreciation of most other cars, before you draw any conclusions. I wouldn't have done that trip in any other car, no matter how exotic or expensive.
Sometimes a relationship with a car can be a slow burn. My Roadster was certainly that, but every time I took it out I loved it more. Maybe I'm a bit quirky, but there are plenty of others on here who are equally quirky. I've never followed the crowd, I make my own choices, and buying a Morgan has opened so many doors, and led to so many friendships, I don't know where we would be without it!!
Obviously the factory should be more receptive to issues........

As for depreciation; I believe the general lack of depreciation can be attributed to the very low annual mileage most Morgan see. If you do "proper" mileages then there is a much higher depreciation. Still less than most similarly priced cars though.

Is that a fair question John?
Which Porsche from which generation. 993 Turbo, 968 Club Sport, 996C2, Cayenne S1 ?
I think you need to be a little more specific as the range has some stars and some lead lumps.
Morgan may not have gone up like 993 and early models but they do a lot better than most marques?
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Boxsters don't do well do they. Too many for the sh market I suppose.
For any real comparison you'd have to adjust for the big gainers on both sides. Air cooled 911s and early Plus 8s for example.
My 2005 Roadster was just over 40k new and is still in the 35k region after 13 years. That's just a nice perk and helps justify the purchase. I can't be bothered to check out 2005 Porsche performance but I would be surprised if it came near.

Surely the increased staffing overheads is more than off-set by the ever increasing prices? The information is available free from Companies House in the published accounts if you want to confirm your thoughts over the past few years.

Am I missing something? I'm on public wi-fi so its taking a while.
