Ok, so you need to look at the accounts filed in the last week or 2 for Morgan Technologies. Its interesting and enjoyable reading although a bit dry for those of us not into accounts. The answer to my initial question is an emphatic YES.

Oh, I have the Boxster as well - Yeah, drives better, goes faster, more comfortable - so why am I never grinning in the rear view mirror?

Because modern cars tend to be capable but dull, even if they go well.

I changed my plus 4 for a Boxster 718. I've now covered about 11,000 miles and have not had any reason to miss the Morgan.

I've just returned from trip of 2755 miles with no problems.

I changed my plus 4 duratec having covered 38,000 miles from new.

I got a Boxster 718 manual. I've now covered 11.000 miles and do not regret the change. The last trip a couple of weeks ago covered 2750 odd miles with no issues.

A test drive may be worthwhile.

I had one of my best versions of that yet, yesterday. Four teenage boys, two cycling and two on skateboards, were patiently waiting at a crosswalk for the light to change (pedestrians, even teenagers, are remarkably law-abiding when it comes to crossing roads here...) I was bringing my youngest home from a swimming lesson, and stopped at the light. One lad looks over, nudges his friend, who looks over in turn, nudges the third, then the fourth. It's this last one who yells "Sick car, man!*" which attracts the attention of a couple walking their dog further along the road. As they're looking over and smiling, the dog wanders round the wrong side of a lamppost and does that confused "how are you pulling me back that way when you're over there?" thing. Everybody laughs.

* Tempted as I am to answer "no, it's running quite well actually, thanks," despite knowing from my own teen that this is a compliment, I manage to restrain myself. And then the dog-lamppost incident renders it moot...)

barely worth owning so I'm seriously considering moving to the more modern

Strictly speaking this isn’t true - you had to hang around waiting for me to sort out problems with my Plus 4

I am surprised by the surprise expressed. High end cars are an asset just like any other and when the market cools down, as the stats for car sales clearly shows it has, then you end up with an overhang of cars for sale at prices that dont reflect the situation. The owner isnt prepared to accept his car isnt worth what it was a year before. This glut doesnt last - a few get sold at lower prices and others on sale or return get returned, maybe to re-appear a year or two later.

Its exactly what happens with house prices when they start to top out and fall. And with boats. Its simply the nature of a market.

FWIW the prices of Ferraris have also fallen by at least 10% since the peak in late 2016. So have the prices of cars like classic E types. I was talking to the owner of a 328 Fezza a while ago - he had bought the car new for a bit over 100k only to see it fall down as far as 25k. He kept the car and it rose back to approaching 100 on the listings last year. He's now trying to sell at 85k and getting no interest.

As for a Boxter can I suggest you try the F type S. I did at first wonder if I had made a mistake buying mine but I am now pretty sure that I didnt. Its a real sports car, with excellent performance , a wonderul sound track and great handling. Far more characterful than the Boxter which I have always found to be bland to the point of boredom. Sure its not as characterful as a Plus 8 but then its half the cost and IMO a better car.

The best car for those worried about depreciation is the Dacia Sandero.
