Glad to hear you walked away from it obviously shaken up but unhurt. Take it easy for the next few days and I am sure your M3W will be back on the road very soon.
Speaking as somebody who has lost a son in a car accident (and I was driving at the time), the problems with the car will pale into insignificance compared to what the outcome might have been.
Good luck and I hope you are soon back on the road.

Pleased you weren’t hurt. Hope the repairs don’t take too long.
Wonder if your travel insurance will cover the ferry tickets?

What make were the front tyres? Look like Blockleys. As soon as the load goes off the rear, that tyre is mostly just keeping the keel of the ground, so I would look at the fronts for blame. Fronts are week old Blockleys and the rear is a much older Michelin Cross Climate which was just under 3mm in the centre and a bit over at the shoulders. I had already done about 150 miles on Saturday, all in the rain and including lots of standing water - think deep puddles - without any issues apart from visibility till I gave in with the goggles and stuck my normally track only full face helmet on. From my experience on the day and what the policeman said about that particular stretch of road there is something about the surface or geometry of the motorway there that produces more than its share of that kind of sudden aquaplaning. The "lump" of rain was extremely heavy and from the way it snapped I will hazard a guess that one front and the rear aquaplaned at pretty much exactly the same time while the other front stayed on the road surface but with lots of drag from the water depth so the whole car just pivoted around it. I hit the opposite lock stop pretty damn quickly but there was no purchase on the road at all and I might as well have not bothered. I'll also add that until the motorway when I was on the particularly wet bits I was frequently making gaps for myself to check for grip and keep the brakes dry so I had a fairly good picture of the grip available.

Calum sounds likes it must have deserved at least a 5.8 from the judges😉. Hopefully you’ll get the car back soon though.

Glad to hear you are unscathed. We had a similar incident in a heavy rain in Oregon 2 years ago. My first indication was the engine revving up similar to a slipping clutch. This had to be the rear tire aqua-planing on standing water. The rear end snapped left, I corrected and it went right and we were gone. As I think back on it, there were so many opportunities to die. We barely missed a large wheeled road sign, slid down a grassy slope of wet grass and wound up about 200 feet off the road. We next to a fence and in a grove of pine trees. The car was unscathed, not a single scratch although I still find stalks of grass in odd places. My wife and I sat there dumbfounded for at least a minute trying to grasp what had just happened. We no longer drive in wet weather figuring that you only get one free pass with this sort of thing. As Calum said, once one of these little rigs gets away, you are just a passenger. Be careful out there!

Glad you’re safe Calum, such a shame that your trip ended that way. Paul at Revolutions will I’m sure work hard to return it to tip top condition.
