Not all Morgan owners of the 4-4 series are wowed by the experience of ownership. Quality control issues frequently surface.
If he/she happens to be a spanner juggler, the various matters are soon sorted. If that owner is a greenhorn innocent, then the Morgan is likely to become a thing of puzzled disappointment.
How can a motor that drives like an agricultural vehicle, look so attractive, whether cocooned in a garage, driven gently on a sunny afternoon, or taken off to faraway places, and yet gain in value?
Brand loyalty probably plays a part in the equation. My first car was a tired 1936 MG PB bought in Cornwall for peanuts. A barn find advertised in the Western Morning News. Oh! for the days of shoestring motoring.

Another MG I acquired - this one just £125

Everyone I have spoken to who has bought a Porsche has also bought a quality warranty to protect themselves against any nasty suprises and has made sure the car in question has been thoroughly checked/serviced before hand . How many do this with Mogs I wonder ?

To be honest, an ECU problem can be costly, but otherwise on a Trad Mog, unless the engine fails, there's nothing much that would cost £££ to put right.

Ford engines generally are long lasting, so you'd be unlucky to suffer a failure.

In any case it would be an excuse to fit a 2.5L Duratec. That's my plan B.......

Ferrari Porsche and Aston Martin offer "factory" warranties for a good few years after new to try and give the dealers a differentiation. I guess these include enhanced PDI etc. If I was buying one of the modern complex cars I would consider paying the extra. All the posh work cars I have purchased have been 2-3 years old with factory warranty for this reason (and I am generally to tight to buy new)

I just remember buying a 3 year old 968CS from AFN Guildford (the approved Porsche agent) with all of the promises on preparation to justify the price. After delivery I found some right howlers - the rear wash wipe did not even move, the oil light came on during the drive home, the tailgate did not release. Caveat Emptor.

I still think the Cayman is under-rated but I guess you are looking for a soft top. Is there a perspective thing happening with the Boxster. They can be run cheaply but them faults will build up. Someone then buys a Porsche assuming billet solid quality and gets a bucket of bits ?

Wise move Steve.
When I took mine to an indie (in Yorkshire) to have the front control arms replaced, with polybushes rather than the standard Porker rubber bushes fitted, there was an owner looking at his 986S, same age and mileage as mine. His engine was just about to go pop with the IMS bearing failure. For under a £1k this can be sorted - but only before things go wrong. Once they go you are looking at a new engine.
It was enough to persuade me to part with mine, particularly as the Aircon condensers had failed - didn't want an immobile car.

I sat in a new Cayman at Silverstone just after release, and was completely underwhelmed by the interior.

Just too much VW going on. And they are a bit lardy..... innocent

Especially now.

Plastic interiors are a default setting even on high end cars except Morgans !
