I see we just missed a food festival in Abergevenny, that would have been worth a drive. The Angel hotel is in the good food guide as well. Maybe you should do some research on our behalf......

Sukram, that looks like an excellent book. Which of the rides/drives have you done and which were the best?

Interesting that a Belgian has a favourite place to stay in Abergevenny! Obviously it's worth a visit.

What we need now is for one of the TalkMorgan organising types to arrange a mass drive along a selected route with a stay in a nice hotel at the end of it. It's probably been done before but judging from the number of " Just Getting Started" posters on this thread it could be time for another one.

Maybe our South Wales correspondent GLLHG could supply some pictures of the route Howard mentioned

Angel good; The Bear in Crickhowell ( about 8miles away) also very well worth investigation. Try the Gliffaes ( also just outside Crickhowell)

Choice is endless( 'Foxhunter', 'Walnut Tree'' Bell at Skenfrith' '1861' etc etc)- we are the 'Foodie Triangle' of Wales!

regards,
G

Ps As regards the Food Festival- nice day out but you weren't hoping to park were you crazy2

If anyone's near the factory a visit to Ludlow would be good. Tis a very 'foodie' place.

My wife is altogether too keen to do the food research - my wallet is less so. The Angel is good and the Bell at Skenfrith isnt too bad either - had my daughters wedding reception there, and possibly the best breakfast I have ever had the following morning.

The food festival is worth attending but I'm not sure I would go a long distance just for that. We go every year but we live close by.

The roads are a different issue. Once 30 miles clear of the relatively built up south coast, they are usually empty, well surfaced and pass through stunning countryside. Not over heavily policed either until you get to Brunstroms old fiefdom. There is such a wide choice of decent driving roads that its difficult to recommend one in particular. Good area for a weeks driving holiday maybe based on somewhere like Rhyadder.

It sounds like we have found our spot. Good roads, good food, good hostelries, lots of local knowledge.
So who would be on for a meet next summer? Maybe three or four days (2 or 3 nights). Dates, routes, hotels and pit stops to be decided. Maybe we could even throw in a mini concourse and a goodybag smile
